Description ;
The Southern Renaissance movement began around the 1920's and 1930's . Prior to this movement , poets focused on historical romance which continued on and expanded with the Southern Renaissance movement by adding on the heroic tales of war veterans and confederate army members of the Civil War . The movement changed the way poets viewed this work of literature by addressing three major themes in their poems .The remembrance of burdens and tragedies in history such as , slavery and military defeat was the first theme. The second theme focused on reserved culture , how a individual would keep their integrity within their community. Last but not least, the poets made a central point around the South's distraught history in reference to racial issues thus, making it the third theme. Many authors contributed to the Southern Renaissance Movement , William Faulkner being the most notable .
