Poem Analysis ;
While analyzing this poem snow was involved ,signifying that it must be a winter season . The words " to be in hell with you" give me the impression of him wanting to o things that God would not approve of ,sinning. In stanza 3 , his dry hand contrasted his actions of how softly he touched the flower. A ring is involved which can mean a commitment between the man and women involved in this poem. My understanding is that the they are i love or that they may have a friends with benefits type of relationship going on but the whole ring situation contrasts it . Another idea that i may have is that the women might be married but is seeing this man without her husband knowing .
Literary Devices
A device I detected in this poem was a cliche. In a part in the poem the author used "On his radiantly evil face" is an example of a cliche because radiantly and evil are the opposite but are used to describe his face . But , what is a cliche ? ... A cliche is an obvious remark . Therefore , without this literary device used in this poem in this specific location there would not be any mocking of the poet's description of the man's facial expressions. The final device used in this poem was alliteration . "All as before : against the dining room " was a form of alliteration because of the letter A , used repeatedly is alliteration.
